Benefits of indigenous plants

Each of our gardens provides us with an opportunity to support the unique plants and animals of our local environment.

Planting native indigenous plants in your garden will benefit our local wildlife by providing food and shelter, as well as creating stepping stones so that they can move easily across our landscapes.

Indigenous plants:

  • are perfectly suited to our local soils and climate
  • have greater resistance to disease
  • require little maintenance to keep them looking healthy.

Creating a garden with a range of plant heights, different foliage and flowering times will provide a wide range of habitat types that attract and support lots of different animals.

In addition to planting plants in your garden consider providing a water source that will also attract and support wildlife, especially during the warmer months.
